You are helping your child decide his or her future. These decisions are tough. We understand, and we are here to help.
Monroe County Community College provides students with a great education built on personal attention, practical experience and committed, highly-qualified faculty and staff. We prepare our students for future success. And, we do it at a very affordable price.
At MCCC, our mission is to provide student-focused, affordable and quality higher education. We take that mission very seriously. We try to live it each and every day in every interaction with our students and the community.
- Cost – at $129.52 per credit hour for in-district students, MCCC is by far the lowest-cost higher education option for Monroe County residents.
- MCCC has pre-approved transfer options with 20 university partners – and many more through the Michigan Transfer Agreement – so your child can go on to get that bachelor’s degree at one third the cost of a typical four-year, public university. Two universities – Siena Heights University and Spring Arbor University – have locations right on MCCC’s campus. SHU allows students in some programs to complete three years of a bachelor’s degree taking MCCC classes – at MCCC’s low tuition rate.
- MCCC has a wide variety of associate (two-year) and certificate (one-year or less) certificate programs in areas like nursing, business, computer information systems, engineering technology, early childhood education, criminal justice and more.
- The faculty to student ratio at MCCC is 9 to 1. That low ratio allows our faculty to give our students the personal attention they deserve – there are no giant lecture classes at MCCC. This is a huge advantage for MCCC students over those who attend large, public universities, where introductory courses are often taught in classrooms that hold hundreds of students. At MCCC, introductory courses like Sociology, Biology and History are typically taught to 15, 20 or 30 students at a time, not 100 or more.
- High-quality instruction. Our full-time faculty members are well-respected and highly knowledgeable in their field. Nearly 95 percent have a master’s degree or higher in what they teach, and more than one-fourth have doctoral degrees.
- At MCCC, our faculty’s true passion is to teach. They do not perform research while their courses are taught by graduate students, as can often be the case at big universities. MCCC faculty members are accessible and very responsive to student needs; they offer personal instruction in small classroom settings.
- MCCC is committed to offering students state-of-the-art facilities. New construction and major upgrades to a number of facilities across campus have been completed and a number of projects are in-progress or planned. In 2017, a $16.3-million campus-wide geothermal-based heating, cooling and air-conditioning system was installed. In 2018, a $1.25-million renovation was made to the Life Sciences Building, including a large addition designed specifically for student collaboration. In 2021, a $9-million renovation was completed to combine the East and West Technology Buildings into a single facility including a student success center housing student services, collaboration spaces, classrooms and labs. In 2022, the Campbell Learning Resources Center was completely renovated and expanded and renamed the Campbell Academic Center.
If cost is a concern, MCCC is a great choice. At one-third half the cost of a public university for in-district students, MCCC is very affordable. Hundreds of additional scholarships are available annually. Last year, more than half of MCCC students received financial aid, and the college awarded $500,000 in scholarships. MCCC also offers a tuition payment plan that allows you to pay your child’s tuition and fees over time.
Through their community involvement and volunteerism, MCCC students make a difference on campus and in the community. MCCC’s students are offered plenty of such opportunities through Student Government and about 25 other official student clubs and organizations. In addition, there are many other engaging and enriching aspects of campus life at MCCC, such as the MCCC Art Collection, symphony band, choir, Culture and Current Affairs Speakers Series, dance, entertainment/events at the La-Z-Boy Center/Meyer Theater, a fitness center, literary magazine, student newspaper, Honors program, Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society and Study Abroad program.

MCCC’s counselors in the Admissions and Guidance Office are there help incoming students decide on a career path. They provide academic advising, career counseling and testing and referrals to outside agencies. All new students must meet with a counselor in the Admissions Office prior to registering for classes the first time.
Tutoring and learning assistance services are provided free to registered MCCC students. They can get help in a wide variety of subject areas. From math and science to humanities and social sciences, these services are a great resource to help students who are looking to improve in their performance in the classroom.
Absolutely not. The Michigan Transfer Agreement makes transferring easy – 30 credits are guaranteed to transfer to the other colleges and universities in Michigan. MCCC also has pre-approved transfer agreements with 20 colleges and universities. Bachelor’s degree completion agreements with four-year colleges are commonly known as “2+2” and “3+1” agreements. A “2+2” agreement allows the student to transfer approximately the first two years of a four-year degree from MCCC to another college. A “3+1” agreement allows for the transfer of up to three years of MCCC credits into a four-year degree at the transfer institution.
